The Association of Estonian Marine Industries’ traditional vision seminar Messroom Talks bears the title “Anchor Points” and will take place on October 17 in Kuressaare, focusing on the future of harbours and their key role in the development of the blue economy.

The seminar will look at the potential of harbours in ensuring sustainability and implementing new technologies. We will explore how harbours can be effective reference points for the development of fisheries, renewable energy, and tourism. We will ask: what does the future expect from harbours, what kind of coastal infrastructure do we want, who has the power to develop it, and how can we pay for it all?

In the first half of the sessions, we will listen to presentations in English. Linos Voskarides from the European Commission will present the European vision for the blue economy and discuss how harbours should adapt to support sustainable economic growth. Patrick Hemp from ICOMIA will talk about the innovative energy solutions that harbours of the future should offer. In the second half of the day, local experts will share insights from Estonian and Latvian harbour surveys and public-private partnerships in harbour development. In a breakout session, we will reflect on the development of the harbour grid.
